London Wedding Photographer

relaxed documentary wedding photography by Owen Billcliffe

Hi, I’m Owen, a taller-than-average London-based wedding photographer all the way from sunny Glasgow. Thanks for checking out my wedding photography! I’ve been photographing weddings in London, across the UK, and around the world since 2012, and it’s easily the most rewarding and fulfilling job I’ve ever had, I absolutely love it.

So the big thing you need to know about me is, I’m really not into all that ‘traditional’ wedding photography stuff like spending hours on posed group shots and portraits. All the best pics in our own family albums are the ‘candid’ shots capturing real moments and real memories, so that’s what I specialise in: emotional, authentic photos of all the love and joy of your wedding day, so you’ll never forget how you felt.

I’m based in Kingston Upon Thames in SW London, a great base for London wedding venues like Fulham Palace, Kew Gardens, Oaks Farm and Gaynes Park, but I’m happy to follow you all over the UK and the world to capture your wedding memories. So if you like my style give me a shout and let’s make it happen!

I’m not into ‘traditional’ wedding photography stuff like spending hours on posed group shots and portraits – not when there’s a party going on! My favourite photos in our own family albums aren’t posed, they capture real moments and real memories, so those are the kind of wedding photos I specialise in. They help keep your own memories alive, and in years to come you’ll always remember how you felt that day.

your wedding day story

No two weddings are ever the same but for me there’s really only one way to capture your wedding story in photos, and that’s by spending it with you from start to finish, like a friend with a camera.

So if you’re starting the day with bridal party hair and makeup, I’ll be there to share that nervous excitement with you wherever you are, perhaps in a suite at your London venue, an Airbnb nearby, or even just at home.

And then after the ceremony and the confetti I’ll stick with you all the way through to your first dance as a married couple, and well into the night as the party kicks off on the dance floor, making photos that capture all the big wedding moments you remember, and plenty more you missedcheck out my portfolio to see what I mean.

more about how it works

Real moments, no cheese.

Almost every couple says to me “we don’t like posing”, and I totally get it – I feel the same way! So I promise your wedding photography won’t turn into a HELLO magazine shoot. I’d much rather blend in and go looking for the photos that capture how it felt to actually be there.

Sure, we’ll do a few family group shots, but only a few. And I’ll get arty with some relaxed wedding portraits, but I’ll never ask you to look at me and say “CHEESE!”, we had to do that enough when we were kids, right?!

A bride’s mum once told me most of their guests didn’t even realise they’d had a professional wedding photographer, “and I mean that as a compliment!” – mission accomplished.

Wedding venues in London

I’ve lived in London for 20 years and it’s one of the most diverse and creatively exciting cities in the world. And there’s so many stunning wedding venues to choose from I don’t think I’ll ever get to visit them all in my lifetime – although I’m giving it my best shot!

Perhaps you’re getting married in the urban chic of Clapton Country Club, or prefer the tranquility of Cambridge Cottage in Kew Gardens. You could have your ceremony in the medieval setting of Fulham Palace or in the contemporary style of Andaz Liverpool Street. There’s even peaceful countryside wedding venues within reach like Oaks Farm in Surrey, or Gaynes Park in Essex.

No matter where you’re getting married, in London or further afield, I’ll be right there with you capturing it all with my signature style and discretion, from the moment the rollers go in, right through to the post-wedding party on the dancefloor that night.

Relaxed engagement sessions

My London engagement sessions are very laid-back. You don’t even have to be recently engaged – just think of it as a mini-date with me tagging along to make some pics. And you definitely don’t need to be ‘posers’ – just focus on each other and we’ll make some great creative photos that feel like YOU and look great framed. Plus you’ll get to know me and my photography style, and feel even more comfortable on your wedding day.

London engagement sessions last about 60-90 minutes. I’ve made gorgeous photos in Battersea Park, Greenwich Park, Regents Park, even just wandering along the Thames in Richmond. If you’d love a more urban feel we can explore the side streets of central London, or even just your neighbourhood.

Small weddings in London

If you’re planning a smaller wedding celebration in London with just a couple of dozen guests, or maybe even an elopement with just the two of you and a couple of witnesses, you still deserve photographs capturing your wedding memories. I offer bespoke wedding photography packages tailored to small London weddings, especially in the quieter months, mid-week, and at short notice.

I’ve photographed small ceremonies and elopements at all of London’s most popular venues that cater for smaller wedding ceremonies, such as Chelsea Old Town Hall, Old Marylebone Town Hall, and Southwark Register Office, as well as larger venues like Fulham Palace and Asia House. And then after your ceremony if you’ve booked a private dining experience at restaurants like The Ivy, or Somerset House, I’ll come along with you to capture reception drinks and some toasts.

So... what next?
