Wandsworth Town Hall wedding

Claire and Giles live in Earlsfield, SW London, pretty much down the road from me, so we ended up having our first meeting in our mutual favourite hangout, the Earl Spencer in Southfields. For their wedding they were looking for exactly the sort of photography I specialise in: something candid but stylish, documenting the atmosphere of the day without getting too formal or fussy about it. Well, that’s me all over!

We started the wedding day with the groom in the pub – across from Wandsworth Town Hall in The Brewer’s Inn, in fact, where the groom, best men, and close family gathered for last minute hugs and a quick half, before embarking across the road for the ceremony.

Claire and Giles chose the main hall for their wedding, a wonderful semi-circular wooden panelled room, arranged in the style of a shallow-raked amphitheatre with red leather-cushioned pews, enough room for dozens of guests. The Town Hall also features a rather magnificent wide marble staircase, perfect for a huge group photo from above, as you can see!

After the ceremony and the portraits (during which one of the Best Men sourced emergency beers for the bride and groom from a local supermarket – nice work that man!) it was on to The Antelope in Tooting for the reception. Their private room at the back feels like stepping into someone’s enormous lounge – homely and welcoming with a 1950s vibe, a great place to eat, drink and be merry with a whole load of friends and family. And they even bought me some beers once I was all done for the night – thank you!
