One of the best hotels in London for your wedding

If you’re planning a London hotel wedding you’re really spoiled for choice. With so many of the best hotels in the world packed into the UK’s capital city, how do you pick the right one for you? As a London Andaz wedding photographer I love the way the venue marries (pun intended) old school opulence with contemporary style, and of course being a hotel it’s the perfect one-stop wedding venue from pre-ceremony prep all the way through to the party on the dance floor – plus you won’t have far to go getting back to your room at the end of the night!

Spend your whole wedding day at The Andaz Liverpool Street

The Andaz Liverpool Street would make a great wedding reception venue alone, but unless you’ve got your heart set on a church wedding ceremony why not have your whole wedding day there? You could married in the Bishopsgate & Chancery room, head down to reception drinks in the 1901 Wine Lounge, then enjoy your wedding breakfast, first dance, and the evening party in the spectacular 1901 Ballroom – perfect!

Or you could opt for the gothic-feeling Masonic Temple for your ceremony, Rake’s Cafe Bar for drinks, and the Andaz Studio for more intimate wedding breakfast celebrations.

As for your group shots and portraits, the Bishopsgate & Chancery room can be cleared for group shots after the ceremony, or there’s the wide-open space between the two ‘sides’ of the hotel that opens into the circular well looking up towards the hotel room floors, with modern wooden-slatted walls and plenty of overhead daylight. This is also a great space for some creative couple portraits too.

And of course when it comes to catering there’s no need to go looking for a caterer as you’ve got the amazing teams at the Andaz itself standing by to fill your glasses, keep the canapes coming, and provide your wedding breakfast too. A couple of months before the big day your Andaz wedding manager and the head chef can guide you through their tasting menu, with samples of all their exquisite dishes and accompaniments to help you build your perfect wedding menu.

As for the evening party, I think most wedding couples opt for the 1901 Ballroom, and the first time you walk into it you’ll immediately realise why. It’s absolutely stunning, with plenty of space for dozens of tables to seat hundreds of guests – but I’ve seen smaller weddings with less than fifty guests fill the space with love and laughter too.

Plus even when you’ve got hundreds of guests there’s still plenty space for a DJ or band, and a huge dancefloor for your first dance and the evening party. It’s a proper one-stop wedding venue in the heart of London.

The Andaz London Liverpool Street might not initially strike you as a great venue for creative wedding photos, especially as there’s no outdoor garden spaces available. But when I’m making wedding photos there I find the unique backdrops and architectural range offer some great creative options.

For a start the Andaz London’s iconic architecture provides a striking setting that works so well for dramatic and unusual wedding photographs. From its historic redbrick façade to its grand entrance and elegant interiors, the hotel combines timeless charm and modern sophistication in ways you won’t often find in a London hotel – it’s usually one or the other.

And there’s so many intriguing rooms and spaces catering to different styles and preferences, so whatever tone you’re after for each part of your wedding day there’s something for you. Whether you prefer the classic elegance of the wood-panelled Bishopsgate & Chancery room, the intimate Gothic atmosphere of the windowless Masonic Temple, or the opulence of the 1901 Ballroom, each space offers its own unique ambiance and character.

And sure, there’s no garden space but why not embrace that? Alternative wedding ceremony venues near The Andaz Liverpool Street

If you’re thinking about a church or register office for your wedding ceremony, and then The Andaz Liverpool Street for your reception afterwards, you’ve got plenty of options.

1. St. Botolph’s Church, Aldgate: ten minutes walk from the Andaz, St. Botolph’s is a beautiful 12th century Anglican church with stunning architecture and a distinctive tower making it a memorable setting.
2. St. Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace: literally five minutes walk from the Andaz, St Ethelburga’s is a special gem nestled in the heart of the city. Their peaceful courtyard and atmospheric interior offers a tranquil and spiritually meaningful setting to exchange vows, and their commitment to inclusivity makes it a perfect choice for couples from diverse backgrounds and faiths.
3. St. Mary-le-Bow Church, Cheapside: an iconic London landmark known for its distinctive Norman architecture and famous Bow Bells. Steeped in history and tradition, St. Mary-le-Bow provides a grand and majestic setting for wedding ceremonies with its ornate interior, soaring ceilings, and magnificent stained glass windows.
4. All Hallows by the Tower: one of the London’s oldest churches, dating back over a thousand years. Nestled by the Tower of London with ancient architecture, tranquil gardens, and stunning views of the Tower Bridge, All Hallows by the Tower provides a romantic and unforgettable backdrop for your ceremony.

If a register office ceremony would suit you better there’s some great options around London. There’s a bit more travelling required to get to the Andaz than the local churches I’ve listed, but great options if you don’t mind hopping in a car.

Islington Town Hall: known for its elegant Georgian architecture and historic significance, Islington town hall offers several beautifully appointed ceremony rooms, including the grand Council Chamber and the intimate Mayor’s Parlour. I’ve shot several ceremonies at Islington and it makes a great venue for a more intimate ceremony before the big party at the Andaz.
Old Marylebone Town Hall: probably my all time favourite London register office. Dating back to the 1920s, the town hall is renowned for its elegant Art Deco architecture and timeless charm – every room is beautifully appointed, catering for small groups of a few guests up to 30-40 guests in the iconic Westminster room. The sheltered columns and steps outside make for beautiful group shots and portraits too.
Chelsea Old Town Hall: housed in a striking Victorian building this has been the venue for many a celebrity ceremony. The iconic Brydon Room can seat 20-30 guests, or opt for the intimate Rossetti Room which seats around half that. Then step outside their famous front door for the classic confetti moment and group shots on the steps.
